Dear Niels!

Now I have finished with Jordan which I think I know inside out; it is fun when one studies for an exam to be able to read such a classic work which one has such great pleasure in really immersing oneself in. I shall now crack on with the theory of motion and physics, with Sturm being my evening’s entertainment. If by any chance you have kept any of your exercise books from the Polytechnic, I would like a couple sent over; then I could read them for fun. Yesterday the so-called Mission Week began, i.e., every day for a week either a priest or a missionary from Inner Mission preach in the church. Yesterday began with Pastor Lange from Odense who spent the evening at the vicarage and who was very pleasant and friendly, otherwise apparently a “are you listening, you yokels and city slickers and so on …” But as I do not intend to listen to any of the learned gentlemen, the whole thing is all the same to me. I am increasingly fond of the family here, in particular the father, with whom I have become fine friends, and I think that you will like him too. Yesterday I wrote, after prompting by M.H. to Aunt Fany, as well as to Landau. Today it is snowy. But when one sits in one’s room in one’s dressing gown with a Rømer or even a Julie in one’s mouth and the fire crackling in the grate, it is only pleasurable to look outside. Goodbye for today. Greet Pa, Ma and Jenny 1000 times. From your dev.

Harald.

It was nice that you got Nørlund’s letter in time and that you enjoyed yourself with him. Jenny wrote that you would be having a little get together; ask Ma to tell me who was there and how you were and a bit about how things are going over at the laboratory. |
