Letter? from Niels Bohr to Harald Bohr

A Copenhagen, Niels Bohr Archive, Harald Bohr Correspondence, HBC-BOHR-090701t. Letter, handwritten by Niels Bohr

Dear Harald!

Many thanks for all your cards. I am now thankfully finished with all the writing up, it’s terribly nice even though, unlike a certain Master, I cannot say I am completely satisfied with the result. The assignment was so broad in its scope that I, with my free-flowing pen, had to be satisfied with the inclusion of relatively few fragments. I hope that the Examiners let it slip through however as I think I have managed to include a few small things that are not written elsewhere. These small things are however mostly of a negative character (you know well that I have that bad habit of believing that I find other’s mistakes). On the more positive side, I think I have given an indication as to the reason for the, lesser known fact for you, that alloys do not conduct electricity as well as the pure metals of which they are comprised. I am now rather excited to hear what Christiansen will say to the whole thing; I am going to speak to him tomorrow and I shall let you know how it goes.

I was at an exam party for Ole yesterday. He has had an excellent exam, You probably remember that it did not go so terribly well in the 1st part but all that changed in the 2nd part; he has attained pure 15s and 16s in all subjects and the final was particularly good as he was up in Clinical Surgery with Rovsing yesterday and got “prae ceteris without discussion”. Ole left last night as he will be working as a locum all summer for a doctor near Ringkøbing. I have arranged a little trip with Edgar |for a week, and afterwards, will go over around the 12th with Weber to visit the Møllgaards. I’m looking very much forward to hearing how the Master’s lecture goes and in general to hearing “properly” about how things are going for him.

Now goodbye and “lots” of love from
Niels.

(This rather messy letter, which will soon be followed by a better one, is due to the fact that Pa is waiting for me as he and I are going cycling out to Nærum.)
